About issue 19:

We follow the success of our joy-focused issue 18 with a new theme – this time looking at cities and their role in the way we live. We speak to Malmö’s city architect about designing cities that are based around aesthetics, functionality – and the feelings of the people that live there. And we look at a Boston-based project that engages local people in the needs of their community.

But we move outside the cities, too. Our cover story catches up with Craghoppers to hear about revolutionary technology which takes carbon emissions from factories and turns them into a fibre, that becomes a fleece for those heading for the outdoors. And we hit the beach in Margate, to find out more about the magical power of seaweed and Haeckels, the skincare brand rethinking the way the industry works.

We have a beautiful photo story about a sustainable brand and cycling adventure on the island of Mallorca and explore illustrator Ndumiso Nyoni’s quest for more authentic representation of Africa. In between, we spend 48 hours in Pune, soaking up the sights and sounds of India and introduce new slots to hear from artists and writers in the UK and Africa about their daily routines and the inspiration behind their work.

We tackle fear in this issue and ask what’s holding us back. We also reveal the results of our long study into the impact of creating Ethos – and how we can improve it. And, as 2023 draws to a close, we round off our Year of Impact campaign, suggesting ways you can create change, large or small.
